When I Stop Talking, I Hear More

Happy Friday, beautiful! 💕

I’ve grown so much through my willingness to be silent. To stop talking for a moment and allow the world to share something with me. I’m discovering how much there is to hear when I give myself time to listen without already knowing what I’m listening for.

Sometimes I enter a conversation with an idea of where it’s going. I have my thoughts, my questions, and maybe even the outcome I’m hoping for. But when I’m willing to be quiet, someone can say something I hadn’t considered. Suddenly, there is another possibility. Something that wasn’t even part of my plan now has room to become an option.

I love that I’m becoming more open to those moments. There have been times when I was so busy explaining what I wanted that I wonder what else might have been available for me to hear. Now, I’m curious enough to let a conversation unfold. I don’t always have to guide it somewhere. Sometimes I get to discover where it goes.

Silence also allows me to see people differently. I can hear more of who they are when I give them room to share. Something they say may deepen our connection or help me understand an experience I had misunderstood. Other times, listening helps me recognize that I’ve been holding on to an idea of someone that doesn’t quite match what they’re showing me. Having that awareness gives me more freedom in how I choose to move forward.

I’m learning to leave room for my feelings, too. When I’m busy moving, talking, and doing, I can miss what an experience is bringing up in me. A little quiet gives those feelings time to surface. Sometimes I realize that a thought I’ve carried into a decision belongs to an older experience. Sometimes I feel an interest or excitement I hadn’t noticed before. I get to consider what belongs in the choice I’m making now.

That has become such a meaningful part of slowing down for me. I’m more able to receive something without immediately deciding what it means. I can listen, let it settle, and come back to it. I can change my mind when I learn more. There is something freeing about knowing that my first thought doesn’t have to be my final understanding.

And sometimes, the quiet is simply lovely. I can take in what’s around me, notice how I feel, and be surprised by what catches my attention. I’m giving the world a chance to speak to me, share with me, and even lead me toward something I wouldn’t have thought to look for.

I’m grateful I’ve become willing to pause long enough for that to happen. I still have plenty to say, and I imagine I always will. I’m just finding that I have more to learn, more to feel, and more possibilities to consider when I leave a little room to listen.

Love always, ✨
