There’s something magical that happens when you give yourself permission to dream beyond the limits of what seems reasonable.
I remember watching a short YouTube clip of Steve Harvey back in 2022. He was talking about something he called the “300 List.” He said most people don’t get what they want out of life because they never ask for what they actually want. And when they do, they stop short — usually at the first ten or twenty things.
His words landed on me at exactly the right time.
It was still the world of COVID. People were staying home, shrinking their lives, shrinking their dreams. And my girlfriends and I? We decided we were going to do the opposite. We were determined to live. To travel. To laugh. To eat well. To claim the fullness of our desires — even if the world was saying “sit down.”
So when Steve Harvey said, “Write 300 things you want,” I was all in.
The Start of My 300 List
That year, I decided to take the challenge seriously. And not just me — I brought it to my wealth group, and even used it at our Wealthy Women retreat. We sat together with pens and paper, and started naming desire after desire.
Here’s the thing Steve Harvey was right about: after the first 50 or so, it gets hard. By the time you’re past 70, your brain feels like it has run out of ideas.
That’s where girlfriends come in. Mine started reminding me of things I had casually mentioned over the years:
- “Remember when you said you wanted a house with floor-to-ceiling windows?”
- “Didn’t you always talk about a closet organized like a boutique?”
- “What about that trip to Italy you kept daydreaming about?”
By the time they finished jogging my memory, I had well over 150 dreams on my paper. And for the first time, I realized how often I had spoken desires out loud… and never written them down.
That’s when dreaming bigger than what’s practical really clicked for me.
The Power of the 300
Ever since that day, I’ve challenged almost everyone in my circle — friends, clients, retreat guests — to make their own 300 list. And every single time, the same thing happens:
- They start big and fast with the “obvious” dreams.
- They stall when it starts to feel impossible.
- And then, when they push through, the most expansive, delicious, audacious dreams pour out.
That’s the sweet spot.
Dreaming bigger than what’s practical isn’t about being greedy or unrealistic. It’s about expanding your imagination far beyond your “now.” It’s about training yourself to believe that if you can think it, you can begin to move toward it.
Every year, my girlfriends and I revisit our lists. We pull them out, laugh at some of the wild things we wrote down, and then check off the ones we actually accomplished. It never fails to amaze me — the number of things that once seemed “out there” that quietly became reality simply because we named them.
Why This Matters for Wealthy Living
Here’s what I know for sure:
Wealth isn’t just numbers in an account. Wealth is the ability to live a life that reflects your deepest desires. To eat at the restaurant that makes your soul sing. To book the trip. To have the home that feels like sanctuary. To say “yes” to more beauty, more softness, more ease.
But none of that happens if you only ever dream within the limits of “practical.”
Practical will get you groceries.
Practical will pay your bills.
But dreaming beyond practical? That’s where overflow, joy, and legacy live.
That’s where the life you’ve been secretly craving begins to take shape.
Your Challenge
If you’ve never made a 300 list, this is your moment.
Grab a notebook, a pen, and some quiet time. Start writing. Write down 300 things you want. Yes, 300.
Don’t stop at 50. Don’t stop at 100. Keep going. Even if you think you’re “done,” press through. That’s when the big dreams — the “impossible,” the “wild,” the “too much” — will finally come forward.
And when they do, you’ll see something incredible: your desires are not only bigger than what’s practical, they’re also more possible than you’ve ever allowed yourself to believe.
Because here’s the truth: when you write the vision, you’ve already started to call it in.
So today, I say yes to dreaming bigger than what’s practical. I say yes to the list. I say yes to every outrageous, luxurious, soul-deep desire that’s been waiting for me to give it space.
And I invite you to say yes, too.
