I spent years declaring overflow in my life through church and my religious upbringing. Sunday after Sunday, Wednesday after Wednesday, I would say the words with conviction: “I live in overflow. I have more than enough.”
It felt powerful in the moment. It felt good to declare. But here’s the truth: I never paused long enough to actually ask myself, what does overflow even mean for me?
I never stopped to say—how much is overflow? How much is more than enough? And because I never got clear about that, it became even more challenging to actually live in a space of overflow.
It was always something spiritual, something lofty, something I prayed about and believed for. But it wasn’t something tangible. It wasn’t something tied to actual numbers.
That gap—the space between the idea of overflow and the practicality of it—kept me from walking fully in the life I said I wanted.
The Disconnect Between Spiritual Overflow and Tangible Overflow
I was raised to believe overflow was a posture of faith. It was in the songs, in the prayers, in the declarations. And don’t get me wrong—it carried weight. It planted a seed in me.
But here’s the issue: if overflow is only something you declare without ever defining it, then it stays abstract. It never lands in your actual life.
For me, that meant that when I started working with my money—budgeting, saving, investing—it all felt foreign. It felt almost… unnecessary. Because hadn’t I already declared overflow?
Except declarations alone didn’t make the bills pay themselves.
Declarations alone didn’t help me save for the home I wanted.
Declarations alone didn’t tell me how much money it actually took for me to live comfortably, travel freely, and give generously.
I had the faith but I didn’t have the framework.
Overflow Requires Clarity
Here’s what I know now: overflow isn’t just about more. It’s about knowing exactly what “more” looks like for you.
Overflow means being very clear about what it requires to live the life you desire.
- What’s your monthly “more than enough” number?
- What’s your annual overflow goal?
- What does overflow living allow you to do that “just enough” living doesn’t?
When I started asking myself these questions, it changed everything. Suddenly overflow wasn’t just a hope—it was a plan.
Overflow as Access
There’s another side of overflow, too. For me, it’s not just numbers—it’s access.
Overflow living means:
✨ When I desire to take a trip, I have the access to do it.
✨ When I desire to pour into a cause, I have the access to give.
✨ When I desire to rest, I have the access to pause without fear.
That’s what more than enough really is—the access to say yes to your desires without hesitation.
But again, you can’t get there if you don’t know what it costs. You can’t hit a target if the target isn’t clear.
Why We Miss Overflow
Many of us grew up in spaces where talking about money with numbers was almost taboo. We were told to “just trust God” or “just keep praying.”
But faith without clarity is just spinning your wheels. You can pray for overflow and still never have it—because you never defined it.
Overflow has to be anchored. It has to be measurable. It has to be specific enough for you to recognize when you’ve actually stepped into it.
Otherwise, it will always feel like a moving target—something just out of reach.
My Personal Shift
The moment I started putting real numbers to what overflow meant for me, the prayers shifted.
Instead of: “Lord, send overflow,” I began saying:
“I am grateful that $10,000 a month flows easily and consistently into my life, creating space for me to give, to save, and to live in peace.”
See the difference? One was abstract. The other was clear. One left me waiting. The other gave me a roadmap.
And the beautiful thing is, once you define it, you can design around it. You can create strategy. You can budget. You can invest. You can build.
That’s when overflow stops being a churchy phrase and becomes your lived reality.
The Soft Challenge: Define Your Overflow
This week, I want you to say YES to defining what overflow means for you.
✨ Write down your monthly more than enough number. Be specific.
✨ Write down the experiences overflow would allow you to say yes to.
✨ Every day, repeat: “I am so happy and grateful for my overflow. My more than enough is here.”
No more moving targets. No more vague prayers. Overflow is yours, but it starts with clarity.
