There’s a song from the ’80s I’ll never forget.
It goes something like:
🎵 “I want money… lots and lots of money… I want to be rich.” 🎵
Even as a kid, I remember singing those words with my whole chest. Because who didn’t want money? Who didn’t want to be rich?
But here’s the problem: the examples around me didn’t match the lyrics.
What I Saw Growing Up
I watched people work their entire lives, sunup to sundown, grinding and sacrificing just to hold onto a little bit of money. And peace? Peace wasn’t in the picture.
The model I saw was:
- Work harder.
- Give up more.
- Be exhausted.
- Maybe, just maybe, you’ll end up with some money.
But rich? And peaceful? That seemed like a fantasy.
So even though I sang the song, the subconscious message I absorbed was: if you want money, you’d better accept that you won’t have peace.
And as a kid, that stuck with me.
The Illusion of “Money First, Peace Later”
As I got older, I realized how many of us carried that same belief:
- Peace comes after you’ve “made it.”
- Peace comes after the bills are paid, the debts are gone, the savings is full.
- Peace comes once you’ve proven yourself and survived the hustle.
But here’s the truth I know now: peace doesn’t come after money.
Peace is a state of being. Peace is a mindset. Peace is an everyday choice.
And when you marry peace with money — not waiting until you’ve “arrived,” but practicing it now — you set yourself up for a completely different kind of wealth.
Redefining the Model
It took me years (and a whole lot of unlearning) to understand this:
Money without peace isn’t wealth.
It’s just numbers with stress attached.
But money with peace? That’s real wealth.
That’s when you can:
- Spend without guilt.
- Invest without fear.
- Rest without panic.
- Plan your future without feeling like you’re constantly “behind.”
When money and peace walk together, wealth becomes sustainable, not just flashy.
Saying Yes to Both
So let me say this clearly: you don’t have to choose.
You don’t have to choose between making money and having peace.
You don’t have to choose between building wealth and protecting your health.
You don’t have to choose between financial stability and a happy nervous system.
You can say yes to both.
Yes to money.
Yes to peace.
At the same time.
But it requires a shift. A shift in how you think, how you plan, and how you allow yourself to live.
How I Practice Money + Peace
Here’s what saying yes to both looks like for me:
- No hustling for the sake of hustling. If an opportunity costs me my peace, I don’t say yes to it anymore.
- Creating systems that give me breathing room. Automatic savings, investment plans, and simple money strategies mean I’m not stressed every day about what’s next.
- Redefining success. Success isn’t just “more money.” It’s money that allows me to rest, to breathe, to laugh, to live slower and happier.
- Trusting timing. I don’t need to force wealth to come faster. I can build steadily, and peace is part of what keeps me consistent.
What I Want You to Know
The models you grew up with may not be the truth.
Yes, you may have seen sacrifice, hustle, and stress attached to every dollar earned.
Yes, you may have heard that peace is for “later.”
But that doesn’t have to be your story.
Your wealth can be soft.
Your money can grow without chaos.
Your peace can sit at the same table as your prosperity.
It might feel radical, even rebellious, to believe it. But it’s real.
Soft Challenge: Say Yes to Money AND Peace
Here’s your soft challenge:
👉🏾 Do one money-related action today that feels peaceful.
It could be:
- Paying a bill early, just to feel the relief.
- Putting $20 into savings without overthinking it.
- Checking your bank account without anxiety, just noticing and breathing.
- Treating yourself to something small without guilt.
Say yes to money. Say yes to peace. And watch how differently your life feels when they walk together.
Closing
I still hear that song in my head sometimes — “I want money, lots and lots of money…” — and you know what? That’s still true.
I do want money. I want abundance. I want overflow.
But I also want peace.
And the truth is, I don’t have to choose.
Neither do you.
This month, let’s say yes to living in a way that makes us rich in more ways than one — rich in dollars, yes, but also rich in peace, in joy, in health, in freedom.
That’s what real wealth looks like.
