Finding Joy in the Little Things: A Guide to Everyday Happiness

Three years ago, I wrote on my “300 List” that I wanted to learn how to bake bread.

At the time, it felt more like a hope than an actual plan. I had no real roadmap to get there, no confidence that I could, and honestly, no reason to believe I’d ever succeed.

Because if history was any indication? I was not a baker.

I had tried before—back in my early 20s. I remember being in college, standing in a tiny kitchen, mixing up a box cake that already had all the ingredients figured out for me. And still… it came out wrong. So wrong that my friends laughed, and I decided right then:

“I can cook, but I am not a baker.”

That became a truth I carried with me for years.

But something inside me still wanted it. I still had a longing to slow down, to create something with my hands, to experience the transformation of simple ingredients into something beautiful and delicious. So, I wrote it down. Even though I didn’t fully believe in it yet.

Fast forward to now.

I’m in my Slower, Wealthier, Happier era. I’ve let go of the rush, the hustle, the pressure to be constantly “doing.” And in that space, I found myself coming back to the small joys. The simple things. The things that don’t make you money or add to your résumé, but make your heart feel full.

And one of those things? Baking bread.

The first batch? It was okay—edible, but nothing to brag about.
The second and third? Disasters. Doughy, heavy, straight-up inedible.
But by the fourth attempt, I finally started to understand something:

Baking is not like cooking.

Cooking allows you to freestyle, to swap ingredients, to season by feel.
Baking? It demands precision. It requires patience, exactness, and a willingness to trust the process.

And in that lesson, I found my happy!

Because happiness isn’t just in the success of something—it’s in the willingness to try. It’s in revisiting the desires of your heart, even years later, and giving yourself permission to experience them fully.

The Little Things Are the Big Things

The world moves fast.

There’s always another task, another obligation, another reason to keep going. But happiness? It’s not in the rushing.

Happiness is in the pauses. In the small, everyday moments that remind us that life is happening right now—not in some distant future when we finally “arrive.”

Happiness is:
☕ Drinking your favorite coffee in the morning and actually savoring it, instead of just chugging it for caffeine.
📖 Curling up with a good book, letting yourself get lost in the story without feeling guilty about “wasting time.”
🌿 Sitting outside, feeling the sun on your skin, and realizing you don’t need to be anywhere else in that moment.
💅 Polishing your nails at home, lighting a candle, and creating a little self-care ritual just because you deserve it.
🍞 Taking a risk on something you once believed you weren’t good at—just to see if you can find joy in the trying.

How to Find Everyday Joy in a Fast-Paced World

We live in a world that glorifies being busy. The to-do lists never end. The notifications never stop. But slowing down and finding joy isn’t about quitting—it’s about choosing presence.

Here’s how you can start:

1️⃣ Schedule Slow Moments Like They Matter—Because They Do

If you don’t plan for joy, the world will keep you too busy to experience it. Block off 30 minutes a day to do something just for you. No work, no obligations—just something that fills your soul.

2️⃣ Romanticize Your Everyday Life

You don’t need a luxury vacation to feel luxury. Create it in your daily rituals:

  • Drink your tea from a fancy cup.
  • Play music while you cook.
  • Buy fresh flowers for your kitchen.
  • Turn your morning skincare routine into a spa moment.

Joy isn’t about what you own—it’s about how you experience what you already have.

3️⃣ Let Yourself Be Bad at Something—And Still Enjoy It

My first few loaves of bread? Flops. But I kept going, and now, baking brings me peace.

Give yourself permission to try things just for the joy of trying—even if you’re not good at them.

4️⃣ Go Outside Without a Purpose

Not to exercise. Not to check the mail. Just to be.

Take a slow walk. Watch the sky change colors. Feel the breeze. Exist.

5️⃣ Take a Social Media Detox—Even for an Hour

We scroll so much that we forget how to just be present in our own lives. Try logging off for an hour a day. Sit in stillness. Let your mind wander.

6️⃣ Find a Community That Values Joy

Sometimes, we need other women to remind us to slow down, to celebrate the small wins, to share in the joy of everyday life.

That’s why Wealthy Women Conversations exists. A space where we talk about money, growth, and joy—not just hustle.

Because we deserve this.

The Lesson in the Loaf of Bread

Looking back, I realize the bread was never just about the bread.

It was about listening to the quiet desires in my heart. About not giving up on something just because I didn’t get it right the first time. About choosing to slow down and enjoy the process.

And that’s what I want for all of us.

Not just the big wins. Not just the milestone moments. But the small, simple, beautiful joys that remind us that we’re alive, here, and worthy of happiness today.

So tell me…
