Get the Thing You Actually Want

Good morning, beautiful,

I had a moment recently that made me laugh at myself and also made me realize something important about the way I have lived for a long time. My husband has been talking for months about the pots we were cooking with and how the materials we use to cook can affect your food and your body. He kept saying the same thing over and over until one day he finally had enough and threw the old pots away. Just like that we were left without the things he normally uses to cook breakfast every morning.

Now I had finally convinced this man to cook me breakfast on a regular basis, so I knew one thing for sure. If he was going to keep doing it, he needed to enjoy the process. Cooking is something we do almost every day in our house, and when something is part of your daily life it should feel good to use. So I went out looking for a pot that would make his cooking experience easy and enjoyable.

When I got to the store, I found a pot that was close to what I wanted. It was probably seventy-five percent of the way there. It looked similar to the one I had in mind and it would definitely work for what we needed. For a moment, I stood there holding it and thinking this is close enough. That used to be my habit. If something was almost right, I would convince myself that it was good enough and move on.

But the pot I actually wanted was different. It was the one that would make him feel like he was standing at the grill at Waffle House making eggs the way he likes them. It was the one that would make the whole process smooth and enjoyable. The only problem was that the exact pot I wanted cost more, and I would have to wait for it to arrive instead of walking out of the store with something that day.

Standing there with that almost right pot in my hand I realized something about myself. For years, I have accepted the version that was close enough. Something felt better than nothing. Almost right seemed practical. But in that moment, I said to myself get the thing you actually want.

So I put the pot back.

I ordered the one that was exactly what I wanted. It costs more, and it will take longer to arrive, but I know when it gets here it will be the right one. It will make the experience better and it will bring the little bit of joy that comes from using something that fits perfectly.

Beautiful, sometimes we say yes to the almost-version because it feels easier. We tell ourselves that close enough is good enough and that wanting the exact thing is too much. But there are moments in life when it is worth waiting, worth saving, and worth choosing the thing that truly makes your heart smile.

Some things in life are small and flexible, but some things matter more than we realize. When those moments show up, give yourself permission to choose fully. You deserve the thing you actually want, not just the version that is convenient.

Love always,
Your most Magical Self 💋💕
